Cheng-Yu Yang, a renowned designer, was inspired by the concept of a “High Bar,” where bartenders are seen as artists and the bar space symbolizes the interaction between them and their customers. This concept was brought to life in the Mood Bar, a restaurant that is as much a work of art as it is a place to enjoy a drink.
The Mood Bar is divided into two distinct areas: the High Bar and the Moon Bar. The High Bar, adorned with large floor-to-ceiling windows, is a vibrant space where bartenders perform their craft. On the other hand, the Moon Bar offers a serene and dimly lit space where bartenders listen to customers' stories and create personalized drinks.
White is the dominant color in the Mood Bar, creating an elegant and original atmosphere. The white-venetian-plaster ceilings and walls, the white-silestone counters, and the ash-gray floors all contribute to the statement that wine tasting is a positive recreation. This 142-square-meter space is a testament to Cheng-Yu Yang's ability to create a unique and engaging environment.
The design process was not without its challenges. Creating a space that was both aggressive and graceful required a careful balance of elements. The bar counter, decorated with pinewood and titanium plating, is a perfect example of this balance, offering a unique and elegant appearance that complements the overall design.
The Mood Bar is a testament to Cheng-Yu Yang's innovative design skills. It's not just a bar, but a space where art and architecture come together to create a unique experience for its patrons. This design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, is a shining example of what can be achieved when creativity and technical expertise come together.
